Livingston Art Association is proud to announce that two of its members won awards in the oil painting category for non-professionals.
Joan Speare won first prize in the 2020 Essex County Senior Juried Art Show in the oil for non-professionals category. Her winning entry, “Orchids in the Wind,” is of a photo taken at the New Jersey Orchid Show in February. This painting now goes on to the State level competition.
She has been painting for the past ten years, fulfilling a promise to herself to take up oil painting in retirement when she had time to devote to the hobby. She began in Charlotte, NC, studying with Lee Baumgarten and Denise Torrance, and continues with Laurie Harden in Livingston, NJ. She has won awards and has sold many paintings. Her style is impressionism featuring colorful flowers.
Her mantra is: “Artistic expression nourishes my soul. I am pleased to share my art with you.”

Angela Wang won second prize for “Snorkeling in Galapagos”.
Their paintings will be entered in the New Jersey State competition in October. Congratulations to you both. We are so proud of you.
