Barbara Sax to Demonstrate Techniques in Gel Plate Printing

The Livingston Arts Association is proud to present award-winning artist and instructor Barbara Sax, who will demonstrate techniques for gel plate printing on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Avenue, Livingston, NJ.

Barbara describes the demonstration as “a creative exploration of unique ways to create beautiful monoprints using a gel plate and acrylic paint. We will explore the use of color and composition, as well as a variety of papers, stencils, masks, and textures to embellish our designs.” Samples of finished work will be provided, along with handouts for those who wish to try gel printing at home or in their studio.

An award-winning artist and teacher with more than 40 years of experience, Barbara holds BA and MA degrees in education from Montclair State University. She has taught in public schools in Roseland, Maplewood, and Livingston, as well as privately in New Jersey and Florida. She has taught at Crane’s Mill in West Caldwell and served as a docent at the Montclair Art Museum.

Barbara has also worked with the YMCA to develop and implement diversity initiatives and classes for individuals with disabilities, and collaborated for eight years with Livingston Youth and Community Services. She currently serves as president of the Arts Council of Livingston and as a board member of its gallery.

“Art is an outlet for emotion and a reaction to events in life and environment,” Barbara says. “It is fluid and always changing. Process is a priority in my work.”

The Livingston Arts Association is dedicated to providing classes, sponsoring exhibitions where members display their work, hosting demonstrations and critiques by professional artists, and awarding scholarships to Livingston High School seniors. Artists of all levels are welcome.

This event is free and open to the public. Bring a friend and join us for an inspiring afternoon of creativity. Refreshments will be served.

We would like to continue to offer these events for free to everyone. However we need to face reality. Costs for hosting these events including the hiring of demonstrators and models as well as refreshments have increased so we will be having a donation box available to help defer some of those costs. We appreciate any support you can offer to help us to continue to provide these demonstrations.
